Goals
This website has two main goals:
- To foster informal communication among Owners that might lead to more informed engagement on Strata Corporation issues, and
- To begin to serve as an example of what an official Strata Corporation website might look like, and what kind of information it should contain.
With respect to the second goal, an official website should probably contain some or all of the following:
- Strata Council contact information, including email addresses on an official domain (i.e., no Hotmail addresses), role email addresses for key positions (e.g., president@example.com, etc.) and phone numbers.
- Management company contact information.
Strata Corporation by-laws. (Done.)Copies of minutes of Council, annual and special general meetings. (Done dating back to November 2010.)Circulars, notices, letters, etc. (Ongoing. Some of the more important and recent past items have been added.)- Copies of important legal documents, such as
insurance policies, contracts with suppliers (including the management company), etc. (Added as they come into my possession. At this time I’m most interested in a copy of our contract with Strataco.) Formaland informal communications from Strata Council, committees, etc. (Formal written communications added as they come into my possession. Formal through this website or informal unlikely to happen under the current regime with its penchant for secrecy.)- Listings of lots for sale.
- Informal notices posted by or on behalf of Owners — e.g., so-and-so is having an open house and we’re all invited, stuff to buy and sell, etc.
- A discussion forum.
- And the list goes on.
Some of the above information would require Owners log in to view it, while some would be public.
There are two aspects to the management of a website, those being the hosting and the day-to-day updating of the website. Hosting of the website would be contracted to a web hosting company, while a volunteer would be appointed by the Strata Council on an annual basis to manage the website’s content. That said, the content management system used to run the website should be straightforward enough that Council and committee members should be able to log in and add, edit or remove (rarely) content that is under their purview.
